Let's face it, life is not always easy. Sometimes we experience situations outside of our control that can lead us to feel stressed and depressed, such as a bad break up or losing a job. It may seem counter-intuitive to see something positive in this kind of situation, but what if there was a way to reframe your thinking completely? Possible? Let's find out!

Realize that setbacks are normal and adversity isn't always bad

Life can be difficult. Bad things will happen to you, and you will screw up from time to time. No matter how well-adjusted, no matter how emotionally intelligent, no matter how mentally strong you are, you will make mistakes, and sometimes it will hurt.

We have to realize that setbacks are normal and adversity isn't always bad. It's the way that we deal with adversity that makes us who we are. There is a saying that goes "what doesn't kill me makes me stronger." I don't know if I agree with this altogether (nothing is worth dying over), but there is some truth to it. We need failure so that we can learn what not to do next time. Failure is a part of life and it helps us grow as human beings.

Make the choice

Whatever life throws at you, you always have the ability to make a choice about how to respond. It's unfortunate that bad things sometimes happen, but they're not fatal if we learn from them or if we don't let them keep us down.

In order to do this though, we have to realize that sometimes it's not about what's going wrong but about how we're dealing with it that matters most. Every person has their limits and when those limits are being pushed too much we start feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or even broken down. We need to accept the fact that setbacks are normal parts of our lives and finding ways to work through them will help us grow as individuals and overcome whatever challenges we're facing.

How we respond to these challenges is important because it will shape the rest of our lives. A person who only accepts the good things that come their way and never accepts responsibility for their actions will never be successful. But a person who feels sorry for themselves and doesn't try to improve their situation will also never achieve anything positive in life, because they've accepted that life isn't always easy.

If you're feeling defeated, ask yourself what you really want out of life. If you accept that life isn't always easy, then it's time to take action so that you can move past your current challenges. You might not have all the answers right now, but if you accept them, then every problem has a solution waiting to be discovered.

Learn from your mistakes and move forward

You can learn from your mistakes and use them as learning opportunities to help you grow as a person. For example, perhaps you were in a bad relationship, but it taught you how to avoid making the same mistake again. And this acceptance can save your sanity, because it allows you to view these situations for what they are--hiccups and bumps on the road of life that can teach us valuable lessons. You may not understand why bad things happen to good people, but there's no sense in dwelling on why or becoming angry about it, when instead there are many ways to turn something negative into something positive so it doesn't consume your thoughts and emotions every day.

Shift your focus

There are some days when it's hard to get out of bed. When you feel like you're not where you want to be in life, or just feel that nothing is going your way. It's easy to get down on yourself, but I'm here to tell you that those days are important.

In the midst of bad times, it's easy to get lost in them. But sometimes a shift of perspective can make all the difference in how you deal with them.

Tough times affect everyone, but they affect us differently. People who are highly sensitive often take setbacks very personally, while others might blame themselves and give up completely. Others blame their circumstances and lose hope.

But whether you're feeling defeatist or blaming someone else, it's important to remember that this is a temporary situation, and there is something you can do about it. Here's how to deal with bad times and come back stronger than ever.

Shift your focus when you go through tough times and put that energy into something else. When you feel bad about your situation, don't think about it; focus on something else instead. This can be anything from creating a new project to helping out a friend in need -- no matter what you choose to do, it will help shift your focus from what's going wrong to what is going right in your life.

Look at challenges as opportunities to grow

It's easy to get discouraged in the face of hardship, but don't lose heart.  These strategies will help you get through a rough patch:

Focus on solutions instead of problems. Think about how you can turn a bad situation into a good one. Losing a job might mean you can focus more on your personal life or start your own business.

Tackle one challenge at a time. Facing multiple challenges at once can be overwhelming and make it seem as if there's no end in sight. Tackle one problem at a time, and then move on to the next.

Seek emotional support. When you're feeling hopeless, it helps to talk things through with someone else -- your spouse, a friend or even a therapist. Whatever you do, don't let the stress eat away at your relationships: Make sure your loved ones know what you're going through and that you need their help and support.

Make small changes for big results. You don't have to overhaul your whole life to improve things. Just changing one habit or behaviour can make a difference -- quit smoking, start exercising or spend more time with loved ones, for example.

Stay positive by looking on the bright side -- and acting accordingly.

Conclusion: There will always be challenges but if you have the right mindset, you'll be able to make these challenges opportunities for growth and move past them with ease.

There will always be challenges in life. Everyone goes through ups and downs. No one is exempt from it. However, as long as you’ve got the right mindset, you’ll be able to make these challenges opportunities for growth and move past them with ease. Life is supposed to be difficult in some areas because that’s where we find out what we’re really made of.

My advice: don’t get stuck in your comfort zone for too long. Always push yourself to go beyond your limits. If there are areas or aspects of your life where you know you need to improve or make a change. Then do just that, make the change and improve because there’s always room for improvement in every area of life no matter how big or small that part is of your overall lifestyle.
